SPE Petrophysics XXI: New Challenges Workshop

09.06.2016

On June 6-7, 2016 wonderful Peterhof hosted the SPE Petrophysics XXI: New Challenges Workshop. The organizing committee has done a good job: composition of participants, set of reports and lectures was interesting. The only thing that was not good is that two days were obviously not enough for such number of reports, the schedule was extremely busy, so there was not enough time for active discussion, which was expected by most of participants. The main focus of this conference was nonconventional reservoirs (oil-source rocks). There were only three reports from the field of rock physics and geomechanics, we hope that next time this topic will take a rightful place.

The workshop was divided into 5 sections + poster reports. From the 1st session “New Methods in Core Analysis” the most interesting, in our opinion, was the report by Sergei Parnachev (TomskNIPIneft) “Petrophysical properties of the Bazhenov group deposits on the south-west of Western Siberia”. From the 2nd session “Integrated Full-Scale Petrophysical Projects” we really liked the report by Aleksei Alekseev (Gazpromneft NTC) “Selected issues of core analysis for the purpose of petrophysical ensuring of oil reserves estimation in oil-source rocks”. Section 3 was marked by interesting reports by Igor Oshnyakov (TNNC) “Innovative approaches to studying of heterogeneous anisotropic reservoirs of Western Siberia fields” and by Anton Filimonov (Schlumberger) “Building of pertophysical model in the range of deposits of Beryozovskaya group”. From the short 4th and 5th sections the most interesting, in our opinion, was a report by Maksim Podberezhny (SPD) “Determination of petrophysical parameters of reservoir on the basis of the data of repeated measurement of induction logging while drilling”.

P.S.: Judging by the number of participants from Schlumberger and Halliburton, our services market has got around the problems.
